Editorial: Salem United wishes to say that in any way if anyone was insulted by the comedian Reese Cotton I am honestly sorry. She DOES NOT represent what Salem United is and what 276 years of the SALEM WILLOWS BLACK PICNIC history stand for. Reese Cotton did not represent herself honestly and for that she will have to live with. As a person of mixed race it was insulting to have my mother hear comments as such, and as a person of mixed race I was personally harmed. We stand for honoring Black History in a respectful way and we invite all to come with only an open heart and a welcoming soul. We know all people will not support Salem United but we also know that "A Community Can't Be United If It Is Divided". So for 2018 come only to Salem United if you have UNITY in your HEART not DIVISION in your SOUL.
